Top 5 Tuesdays: Iconic Horror Movie Cars

October 21, 2014

In most horror movies, demons, ghosts and all manor of other spooky so-and-sos usually take centre stage – and sometimes, the cars just don’t get enough credit! Halloween’s on the horizon and we can’t wait for a fright – so in the meantime, we’re going to break down our top 5 horror movie stars – and of course, we mean the cars.

  • Ghostbusters – 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor
  • Jurassic Park – Ford Explorer XLT
  • Death Proof – Chevrolet Nova
  • Christine – Plymouth Fury 1958
  • Scooby Doo – the Mystery Machine

Ghostbusters – 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor

Possibly one of the most iconic cars on this list, the 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor went from an ambulance to a Ghostbuster’s best friend. Ghouls knew not to stick around when they saw that famous Ecto-1 numberplate!

Jurassic Park – Ford Explorer XLT

Okay, so the Ford Explorer XLT isn’t the scariest car in the world – but watching a T-rex toss the 4×4 like a toy was enough to give anyone a serious case of ornithoscelidaphobia – otherwise known as the irrational fear of dinosaurs, not that we think it’s that irrational.

Death Proof – Chevrolet Nova

Any car with a skull & crossbones on the bonnet is usually best avoided, especially when its driver is a mentally unhinged killer. If only Rose McGowan had known not to accept lifts from strangers, she might’ve lived to tell the tale.

Christine – Plymouth Fury 1958

Sometimes in horror films, it’s the car you should be scared of. This is definitely true of the murderous and vengeful 1958 Plymouth Fury that features in the film ‘Christine’ – not a sensible first choice for student drivers.

Scooby Doo – Mystery Machine

No list of horror movie cars would be complete without this magnificent motor. Retro and roomy, this van had more encounters with the paranormal than any other! And luckily for the gang, it’s built for ghostly getaways.
