Motorbike Mondays: The World’s First Bacon-Powered Motorbike

August 25, 2014

There’s a new motorbike hogging the roads and its leaving a bacon-scented trail – that’s right – it’s a bacon-powered motorbike! As part of a marketing campaign for the 2014 International Bacon Festival on August 29th, Hormel Foods partnered up with Bio-Blend Fuels to create a custom-made biodiesel motorbike.

  • The bike runs on bacon grease refined into bacon biodiesel fuel
  • This groundbreaking technology has the power to reduce carbon emissions
  • A bacon scented exhaust comes as standard!

This sexy hog is a customised EVA Track T8000CDI  3-cylinder diesel-powered motorbike that has been specifically adapted to burn biodiesel. Bio-Blend Fuels in Wisconsin refined 275 gallons of smoky leftover bacon grease into 250 gallons of 100% biodiesel containing bacon grease, paraffin hydroxide and methanol.

As part of a publicity stunt organised by Hormel, actor Eric Pierson will be documented by a film crew riding the hog from Minnesota to California purely on bacon grease. The completed film will be shown at the International Bacon Film Festival later this year.

Nick Schweitzer, brand manager of Minnesota-based Hormel Foods was grilled on this automotive marvel revealing that the bike’s bacon-tank was actually filled using grease from their food production plant in Illinois.

The motorcycle delivers quite a bit of pork-torque and is capable of a staggering 100 mpg, with each gallon costing just $3.50 – we’d all save a lot of cash if bacon fuel caught on! And that’s not all – the exhaust pipe supposedly emits mouth-watering bacon fumes – you’ll be craving the real thing if you get close to this bike! As a massive plus, this finger-licking ride is an eco-friendly alternative to conventional diesel fuel with producing no hazardous waste material by-products and almost no dodgy emissions.

The events organisers have shared some insights into this eco-friendly fuel alternative. “If there were a bacon biodiesel tanker spill in the ocean, the fuel would be safe…merely mouthwatering fish food!…This bacon biodiesel is nearly carbon-neutral, meaning it contributes almost zero emissions to global warming.”

If the technology catches on, perhaps the scent of crispy and juicy bacon will one day replace smog and exhaust fumes on the motorways of the future!
