Citroen C1 Review

Design

The latest C1 is packed with contemporary quirk – boasting an all-new body on top of a huge selection of colour and trim possibilities. Available with either three or five doors – as well as a folding fabric roof, if you opt for the new Airscape – this Citroen city car comes with customisation options in abundance, as well as some tidy LED headlights nestled right into the front bumper.

Inside the cabin, the story is much the same – with a fun and fresh design that helps to differentiate the C1 from sister models the Toyota Aygo and Peugeot 108. Thanks to a colour-coded centre console and the improved material quality versus its predecessor, the C1 is a bright, cheerful car inside and out – with plenty of substance on top of all that style.

Features

The entry-level Touch trim comes with all the fundamentals, including electric front windows, USB socket, LED daytime running lights and remote central locking. Next up, there’s the well-equipped Feel trim – which adds air con, opening rear windows, a 7-inch colour touchscreen, Bluetooth, DAB radio and audio controls on the steering wheel to the mix. At the top of the Citroen C1 range, you’ll find the Flair trim – if you fancy forking out on a leather-clad steering wheel, alloys and a reversing camera.

For a car in its class, the C1 comes with about as much kit as you’d expect – all the essentials as standard, but you’ll need to shell out a little more for the perks that come with the top spec.

Performance and handling

A modest engine lineup gives buyers the choice between a 69bhp 1.0-litre VTi engine and the 82bhp 1.2-litre PureTech – and whichever you pick, the C1 is guaranteed to deliver a light and lively performance. The three-cylinder PureTech is definitely the way to go, though – offering superior capability at higher speeds and accelerating from 0-62mph in 11 seconds flat.

When you invest in a Citroen C1, mpg comes in at over 65 no matter which engine you opt for – and CO2 emissions below the 100g/km threshold mean road tax won’t be an issue.

Price

Citroen C1 prices start from a mere £8,345 for a 3-door Touch with the 1.0-litre VTi engine – meaning buyers will get plenty of bang for their buck. Even the top-of-the-range 5-door Airscape Flair will only set you back £11, 935 – but if you can’t justify the price tag, finding a used Citroen C1 shouldn’t be too tricky.

Ideal for new and young drivers, as well as anyone looking for a reliable runaround to get them from A to B, the C1 is nothing if not value for money – and thanks to the number of flexible Citroen C1 deals available, you can pay for yours through a series of affordable monthly instalments.
