Peugeot, A Brief History

The current Peugeot company was preceded by a family run business that made bicycles and, coffee, salt and pepper mills.  Their first “car” was made in 1889 and was actually an unreliable steam tricycle.  Then in 1890 steam was discarded in favour of a petrol-fuelled internal combustion engine, this was a more sophisticated car than most others at that time.

Peugeot continued to manufacture cars throughout the 1890’s giving them Type numbers, the vehicles evolved due to innovations such as three-point suspension and rubber tires and Peugeot became an early pioneer in motor racing.

In 1974 Peugeot bought a 30 per cent share in Citroen and then took over completely just two years later.  This meant a change in the company’s name to PSA Peugeot Citroen.  The partnership means that Peugeot have been able to share their technical achievements but keep their independent design.

Peugeot provide cars to fit all needs and budgets, from the 107 to the Tepee.
