Nissan, A Brief History

Nissan Motor Co. Ltd was founded in 1934. The word Nissan is an abbreviation of Nihon Sangyo and Hitachi, the company which owns Nissan. Their first passenger car was made in 1935. Before long Nissan started exporting to Australia and in 1937 the Datsun Type 15 was the first mass-produced vehicle in Japan.

In 1958 Nissan started expanding into the American market with a strong, rugged 1200 Sedan with a 48-hp 1200-cc engine encased in thick body panels. This vehicle has a cult following in America today. In 1959 they started to make a reputation with the first State side sale of their Datsun compact pickup. Sales in the USA continue to grow and in 1975, Datsun becomes the number one importer in the States.

In 1999 Nissan entered an alliance with Renault in order to break into the European market and to use each other’s expertise and strengths.

Nissan produce cars to suit all budgets and needs at 33 locations in 16 different countries including the UK.
