This week, thanks to 4 Star Classics, we had the chance to film this one of a kind vehicle. You won’t want to miss the Porsche 718 RS61 Recreation!
The Project
The current owner of the Porsche 718 RS61 recreation built the vehicle based on a 3D scan of a genuine 1960’s Porsche. The entire project took nearly 10 years to construct.
Although it is a recreation, the car does have a genuine Porsche Vehicle Identification Number and is registered.
Since completion the Porsche recreation has only covered 352 miles. And complete with a V5C, recent MOT certificate and DYNO readout, could you really tell the difference from the original? Of course, the car does come with photo documentation showing all the major stages and developments throughout the build.
The Specifics
The body shell is constructed from aluminium, not to be confused with the commonplace fibre glass replicas. The 2056cc engine and 5 speed gearbox are all genuine Porsche. Along with front and rear disc brakes as well as driver’s TRS 3-point harness, which can be changed to a period style lap belt to really feel like you’re driving in the sixties.
When the Porsche RS61 was originally designed, the cars weren’t equipped with a speedometer. Due to modern regulations a genuine 356 speedo has been installed into the recreation.
The red leather upholstery and 15in Blockley tyres really set the period style, whilst looking stunning. Just as a lightweight open-top racecar from the sixties should be!
The Difference
Last year a genuine ex-Stirling Moss RS61 was sold at auction for a staggering £1.9m. With the recreation only on sale for £104,995, it really is great value for money.
Let us know what you think? Could you really tell the difference?
