What better way to start the week than with Motorbike Mondays? And you’re in for a treat this week since we’ll be taking a look at the Yamaha FZ-09 sports bike. The Yamaha Motor Company was established way back in 1955, and one of the first Yamaha motorcycles was a 125cc motorbike. Naturally, they’ve come a long way since then – expanding their range to make them one of the industry’s leading motorbike manufacturers. Right, let’s get down to business and see what the Yamaha FZ-09 has to offer.
Design
The design of this bike is simplistic but with plenty of innovative Japanese features that let you know it’s far from that. This naked bike is the perfect urban ‘sports bike’ that provides a thrilling ride with plenty of style. Its lightweight frame and slim-line body, with a leather seat that blends into the rear-guard, make for a comfortable and agile ride on the road. The aluminium brake pedal, gear pedal and footrests also add to the lightweight feel and clean look of the bike.
The addition of a new 850cc 3 cylinder engine does more than just look great, offering the FZ-09 some extra oomph over its predecessor. The bike comes in three colours – Matte Grey, Matte Silver and Cadmium Yellow – depending on the look you want to go for.
Performance & Handling
This bike really does pack a punch with the new 850cc fuel-injection 3 cylinder engine and Crossplane Crankshaft Concept that gives out an impressive 107hp and 84nm in torque. The high tech features of the Yamaha FZ-09 engine give riders greater torque and control, and allow you to manage the sensitivity of the throttle depending on riding conditions. Overall, it offers great handling on the road and is especially fast on the straights – and the amazing intake sound when you rev it up is guaranteed to get your heart racing.
Features
The high tech features on this bike include the Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) and three Driver Modes (D-Modes), which really help this bike overtake its competition. For a bike with such power, having the option to adjust throttle sensitivity and riding conditions goes a long way to making it a smooth and comfortable ride. The new FZ-09 also features a new LCD instrument panel with a digital bar to indicate your gear position – very handy when you have 6-speed transmissions to go through.
At just over the £5,000 mark, the Yamaha FZ-09 is real value for money. It’s the perfect combination of style, power and agility, which puts it at the forefront of its competitors and helps your money go that much further.
