Celebrity Style: What They’re Driving

September 13, 2013

Many of us (not so) secretly aspire to be more like the celebrities we see on TV and read about in magazines. Some of us even spend our wildest daydreams wishing we had their luxurious lifestyles and, particularly, their sweet wheels. But while some celebrities live up to the stereotype – with the Rolls Royces and the Ferraris – others choose vehicles which are a little more surprising.

Kim Kardashian’s Rolls Royce Ghost

When you’ve got around $40million in the bank and a reputation for drawing attention to yourself, you may as well flaunt what you’ve got, right? Well, TV superstar Kim Kardashian certainly doesn’t believe in keeping things subtle. Her 2012 Rolls Royce Ghost retails for around $400k (approx. £257k at today’s rates) and offers all the bare necessities, such as a rear-view camera, a DVD entertainment system for the back seats, a top-of-the-range 26-speaker sound system, a refrigerator and, of course, the utterly fundamental heated and cooled cup holders to ensure perfect temperature beverages at all times.

Tim Allen’s 1957 Chevrolet NAPCO Truck

Movie star and comedian Tim Allen has a reputation for searching out rare cars, and this NAPCO 1957 Chevrolet 3100 is the perfect example. It might not be the flashiest of rides, but its rarity makes this a real prize nonetheless, especially considering what great condition it appears to be in after nearly 60 years. This truck may lack pricey features such as a built-in mini-bar or a multi-thousand dollar sound system, but its vintage charm and beautiful condition make this a vehicle to be proud of all the same.

This Chevrolet would have cost $2549 (approx. £913 at 1957 exchange rates) when it was new, but Allen’s currently selling it on eBay where the latest bid is for $23,100 (approx. £14,780) although this hasn’t yet reached the reserve price.

David Beckham’s Bentley Mulsanne

He may have retired from ‘the beautiful game’, but David Beckham is still an undeniable international sweetheart. With personal wealth of around £125million (shared between David and his wife Victoria), it’s no wonder Becks chooses to travel around in style with this 2013 Bentley Mulsanne. The £226k price tag is presumably just a drop in the ocean to the Beckhams, with features such as a luxury leather interior and a bottle cooler and rear cabin storage area – with space for two full-size Champagne bottles, three crystal champagne flutes and white LED accent lighting being absolute essentials.

Rihanna’s Porsche 911 Turbo S

If you’re very good this year, Santa might just buy you a $160k (approx. £102k) Porsche for Christmas. But only if you’re multi-millionaire pop star and actress, Rihanna. The 2012 model car was a festive gift from her record label Roc Nation (owned by Rihanna’s mentor Jay-Z) and comes with a Carrera 3.6 litre HG engine and seven-speed manual gearbox. The timeless style of the Porsche 911 makes it a popular choice with celebrities, with the model being named World Performance Car 2012.

Simon Cowell’s 2008 Bugatti Veyron

His trousers may be tight, but his purse strings aren’t – at least not when it comes to cars. Music mogul Simon Cowell is one of only 357 people in the world to own the world’s fastest production car, the Bugatti Veyron. Although undeniably an attractive machine, the Veyron is built for speed rather than luxury and so, rather than wasting space and mass on features like heated cup holders, the Veyron comes with an 8.0-litre, quad-turbocharged W16 cylinder engine − equivalent to two V8 engines − and can accelerate from 0-62.1mph in 2.46 seconds before hitting a top speed of 253.81mph. And all for only £1,065,000.

George Clooney’s Tango 600

George Clooney is one of the most popular and bankable film stars in the world. So what does he drive? A Ferrari? An Aston Martin? A Bugatti? Nope. He drives an ‘ultra narrow electric sports car’ a.k.a. the Commuter Cars Tango 600. Clooney was actually the first person in the world to own a Tango, picking his up in 2005 for around $108k (approx. £69k) before production difficulties caused a three year delay in further deliveries. The eco-friendly electric car is surprisingly nippy, going from 0-60mph in just four seconds and with a top speed of 150mph. So, while it may not be the most stylish looking beast on the market, the Tango certainly makes up for that in terms of its performance and fits in nicely with Clooney’s ethical stance.
