Design
It’s fair to say that Ford have done a cracking job at making this Ford Transit Connect 2014 look sexy. The exterior of this small LCV moves away from the boxy designs of old and combines the style of the Focus’ front end with the practical load space of the Transit to create a beefy looking compact van. With several designs available, including a choice between two & three-seater cabins and varying load lengths, the possibilities with the Transit Connect are endless.
The interior is also impressive, as Ford have taken care to transfer the functionality and style of their passenger cars to the Transit for ultimate practicality. The result is a dashboard that tells you everything you need to know and ample storage making for a very roomy interior, whether you opt for a two or three-seater cab. Another clever design feature is the option to fold down the passenger seats for a desk too.
The rear space can be accessed via a sliding side door or double rear doors, which can feel too small in some models when loading large cargo – but the load space is generous considering it’s a compact van, starting at 2.93m³volume with an approximate payload of 60kg in the L1.
Features
The Ford Transit Connect has plenty of standard and added features for increased safety and comfort. Standard features include ESC stability control that adapts to the load on board, Hill Start Assist, Electric Power steering and DAB/ USB Radio with Bluetooth and Trip Computer. Another useful feature is the central locking, with auto-lock if the doors aren’t opened after 45 seconds.
Performance
With a range of different engine sizes, the performance varies – but overall, the Ford Transit Connect performs very well. It boasts responsive handling and well-weighted steering that helps you remain in control with heavy or lighter loads.
With a 60-litre fuel tank and a Duratorq TDCi 1.6 Diesel engine, there’s plenty of power behind this van whether you opt for the TDCi 75 (74bhp), TDCi 95 (94bhp) or the TDCi 115 (113 bhp). And better still is the efficient mpg delivered by this engine, which ranges from 57.6mpg up to 70.6mpg – with CO² emissions at a reasonable 105g/km to 128g/km.
