Skoda Yeti Review

September 8, 2015

Today, we’re putting the Skoda Yeti under the microscope – which appears to have it all, from the looks of a sturdy SUV to great handling, oodles of interior space and excellent value for money.

Whether you’ve seen a Skoda Yeti for sale or you’re a self-confessed petrolhead like us, take a virtual test drive with us in this Skoda Yeti review to see what this cheeky crossover has to offer.

Design

Since it hit the forecourts back in 2009, this stylish yet practical crossover has undergone some minor changes – including a new nose with a wider grille and new light features. Skoda has gone all-out to bring drivers a road car experience, combined with the interior space and function of an off-road vehicle – meaning the Yeti performs just as well on the streets as it does on the trails. The chunky crossover has been described as ‘boxy’, but the stocky proportions of the Skoda Yeti give it a commanding presence on or off road.

Performance & Handling

The Yeti offers excellent grip and handling on the road, and even the 1.2 TSI turbo petrol engine packs plenty of punch, despite the car’s size – with a decent mid-range torque when you need it. The petrol models also boast impressive fuel economy, so you might not need to pay to for a more expensive diesel engine.

However, if diesel is what you’re after and it’s all about maximum fuel efficiency, the 1.6 TDI is part of the Skoda Yeti Greenline range – which might lack some of the oomph of the petrol alternatives, but delivers a good return on fuel economy.

While the standard Yeti is perfectly capable on city streets and motorways, if you plan on taking it off-road, you’ll want to opt for the additional 4×4 drivetrain.

Features

With two model lines, buyers can opt for the standard Skoda Yeti with body-coloured bumpers and sills, or the Outdoor models which have been optimised with robust black-plastic ones – helping to make this crossover adept at tackling unpredictable surfaces.

Standard equipment across the range is more than sufficient – but we’d recommend going beyond the basic S model, which lacks some of the kit you might understandably expect from a car of its class.

Nonetheless, all trims feature basic air-con and electric front windows, with the SE model packing in dual-zone air-con, a central armrest, dashboard storage box and removable boot box. If you’re in it for the heated leather seats, though, you’ll need to shell out for the pricier SE L spec.
