Volkswagen Transporter Van Finance
Volkswagen Transporter is a Volkswagen commercial vehicle and people mover produced over 60 years in 5 generations retrospectively named T1, T2, T3, T4 and T5. The most common model is a simple van conversion, but it also comes in more than a 100 combinations, including a minivan, minibus, campervan and pick-up. VW van is deeply embedded in popular culture and has become one of the most iconic vehicles of the 20th century. It became a major counterculture symbol during the hippie era in the United States and was synonymous with backpackers and surfers, which gave the T2 Transporter Kombi one of its many nicknames, Hippie Van.
The first generation, T1, was produced from 1950 to 1967 in Germany. It was replaced by the second generation manufactured from 1967 to 1979 and the third generation built from 1979 to 1992 – the last generation to use an air-cooled engine. That engine was succeeded by a front mounted water-cooled engine in T4. The final generation known as T5 has been built since 2003 and the one millionth T5 rolled off the production line in Hanover in 2009. The updates on this model include a world-first usage of a duel-clutch transmission in a light commercial vehicle and 6-speed gearbox on some models.
The transporter comes in two body lengths and three roof heights. Short wheelbase models can fit two Europallets, while longer models can take three. Gross weights range from 2.6t to 3.2t and the van can carry 740-1,340kg in payload. The internal load volume ranges from 5.8 to 9.3 cubic metres.
The latest Volkswagen Transporters come in 2.0 litre turbodiesel engines which are offered in 84PS, 102PS, 140PS and 180PS forms. All these engines come with front-wheel drive transmissions, though the two more powerful engines can also come with all-wheel drive. Emissions range from 166g/km to 240g/km depending on the engine model, while fuel consumption varies between 31mpg and 40.4mpg. All versions of the van come with electronic stability programme as standard.
In 2013 there were 13,325 registered Transporters on British roads. The van holds on to its price well, making it a wise purchase. Warranty on a new Transporter covers you for two years with no mileage limit and up to 100,000 miles for the third year. It also covers any factory-fitted add-ons. Every new Transporter comes with 3 years’ unlimited-mileage Volkswagen Roadside Assistance which covers you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is available across the UK and most of Europe.
T5 has won numerous awards – at the inaugural 2014 Business Van Awards it won five of 12 categories, including Best Large Trades Van for Transporter, Best Heavy Van for Crafter and Best Utility Pick-Up. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles also won the manufacturer award for Best Service Package.
