LexusA Brief History

Lexus is a luxury vehicle division of a Toyota Motor Corporation founded in 1989. In 2005 it entered the Japanese market, becoming the first Japanese premium car make to be sold in its home country. It has since become Japan’s largest selling make of premium cars and one of the ten largest Japanese global brands in market value.

The company’s headquarters are in Nagoya, Japan, and its logo is a stylized L within an oval, created using a precise mathematical formula.

Lexus was Toyota’s attempt to create a luxury vehicle to challenge the world’s best and build the best luxury sedan in the world.  The company’s slogan, “The Relentless Pursuit of Perfection”, reflects the principles on which Lexus was created. The project to create the first Lexus took six years, 450 prototypes and employed the talents of 2300 technicians and 1400 engineers. The finished product was Lexus LS400, designed to provide luxury, style, comfort, quality and performance.

The make has proven to be one of the most reliable brands and has established one of the highest customer loyalty rates in the industry. Its prime market is North America, but its vehicles (which include SUVs, coupes, convertibles and sedans) are also sold in more than 50 countries in Asia, South America, Australia and Europe.

Lexus separated from Toyota in 2005 even though the company still has a large share in it. The company is currently focusing on developing hybrid vehicles.
