Ford, A Brief History

ford-mustang-financeFord Motor Company is an American car manufacturer based in Dearborn Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. The company was founded in 1903 by Henry Ford and various investors and soon became an American icon and one of the largest and most profitable companies in the world. Its Blue Oval Trademark was introduced in 1907.

The first car it produced was the Model A ‘Fordmobile’. Their Model T, introduced in 1908, became one of the most popular cars in the world and the company soon began to rapidly expand overseas. In 1913 Ford introduced the assembly line and started mass production. It became the global leader for car manufacturing after World War II. Other famous models, such as the Thunderbird, the F-1 truck and the Mustang, were produced in the 1950s and the 1960s.

Ford entered the luxury car market by acquiring Lincoln Motor Company in 1925. They would later acquire Aston Martin, Jaguar, half of Mazda, Volvo, and Land Rover. Today Ford encompasses only Ford and Lincoln brands, as all other brands were sold.

Ford has a history in rallying, Formula 1 and NASCAR. Their GT40 won 24 hours of Le Mans race four times and is the only American car that ever won that race.
