Citroen, A Brief History

citroen financeCitroën is a major French car manufacturer founded in 1919 by Andre Citroën, a man who started a revolution in auto production. He was also a visionary who innovated in the fields of marketing and advertising and was the first man to build a dealer network that serviced his vehicles. Due to the mass production techniques borrowed from Henry Ford, Citroën became the first vehicle to be mass produced in Europe. The company was also one of the early pioneers of the aerodynamic automobile design.

Andre Citroën originally started out by manufacturing double helical gears in 1912, and that is how the double chevron logo for his cars was born. The company’s slogan is “Créative Technologie” and its headquarters are currently located at Les Epinettes, north of Paris.

The 1955 Citroën DS was named ‘Most beautiful car of all time’ by Classic & Sports Car magazine, while Citroën 2CV is considered to be one of France’s most iconic cars. The latest model announced for 2013 is DS3 cabrio.

Citroën currently claims 4.23% of the UK market.
