Volvo XC60 Review: Swedish Style

May 1, 2015

We’re back with another review and today, it’s all about Swedish style as the Volvo XC60 goes under the spotlight. With its comfortable, spacious interior and fun driving dynamics, this crossover is ideal for family days out. Let’s see what else it has to offer in today’s Volvo XC60 review.

It might be smaller than the XC90, but the Volvo XC60 still has plenty to shout about. The interior is decked out with quality plastics which not only add class, but also provide the practicality needed in a family car. With spacious seating in the front and rear, this reliable ride is ideal for long journeys. Up front, the driver’s seat is raised for all-round good visibility and the adjustable steering wheel means it shouldn’t be too difficult to find a comfortable driving position. In the back, the rear seats are mounted higher than those in the front – meaning even young children can enjoy the view. Boot capacity stands at 495 litres, and this can be increased to 1455 litres when the rear seats are folded flat – giving you plenty of space to store your luggage. Throughout the cabin, storage is generous – with cupholders and handy cubbyholes providing space for any everyday essentials.

Performance & Handling

It’s time to take a look at the figures, and this is where it gets a bit tricky. The Volvo XC60 comes with two D4 diesel models: there’s the 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine with front-wheel drive and the 2.4 litre five-cylinder with four-wheel drive. With strong acceleration and impressive fuel economy, the 2.0 diesel is our pick of the range. This engine returns 62.8mpg and emits just 117g/km of CO2 – making annual road tax a low-cost £30.

Climb inside the Volvo XC60 and it looks and feels classy – and with plenty of kit at a reasonable price, the entry-level SE trim is the way to go. This model comes with everything you could want from a family crossover and won’t cost any extra. Equipment includes climate control, a DAB digital radio, rear parking sensors and cruise control. Moving up the specs, the R-Design offers a sportier feel, with sports seats and larger alloys. If you’re looking for an even more up-market feel, the Lux version of the SE and R-Design trims adds powerful xenon lights and leather upholstery throughout.
