The Ford Fiesta has enjoyed worldwide success since its production in 1976 – and thanks to its impressive 99bhp 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol engine, it’s no stranger to the limelight. With CO2 emissions of 99g/km and a combined fuel economy of 65.7mpg, this hot hatch is tax-free and cheap to run. Ford Fiesta prices start from just £10,145, but if you’re looking for a greater choice of tech and some change from your 15k, opt for the Zetec model – which comes with electric windows, air conditioning, USB connection, heated windscreen and Ford’s ‘MyKey’ technology.

The entry-level x model starts from £7,995 and features daytime running lights, USB connectivity and electric front windows. If you’re looking for extra kit, the range-topping x-pression with x-wave comes with a 7-inch multimedia touchscreen, remote control locking and stacks of safety features – starting from just £12,390.
