At the Car Loan Warehouse, we’re excited to announce that we’ll be involved in the Bangers4Ben charity race this October. This race is Italian Job themed and involves buying a car for £750 and painting or decalling it – before hitting the fancy dress and taking part in the rally. The car will then be sold at auction to raise money for BEN – a dedicated occupational charity that supports those who work (or have worked) in the motoring industry. Visit our JustGiving page to get involved.
Since their launch in 1905, they have provided practical help and advice to more than 15,000 men and women each year. In celebration of this charity and the race, we’re counting down the top 5 most legendary rally cars of all time!
- Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution – high speed dynamics made it a winner!
- Lancier Stratos – born to win rallies
- Citroen Xsara – arch nemesis to the Lancer Evolution
- Audi Quattro – one of the most powerful rally cars ever!
- Subaru Impreza – came to prominence in the last rallying decade

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution
The Lancer Evolution is set to be immortalised as one of the most successful rally cars the world has seen. The car’s high speed dynamics owed to its turbocharged engine and all-wheel drive system made it a real contender in the World Rally Championships in the early 90s.
Lancier Stratos
After scooping up three championship titles, it’s clear the Stratos was born to win rallies. Weighing in at just 1000 kg, the car was designed with a lightweight fibreglass body and powered by the same formidable 250 bhp 2.4 litre V6 engine used in the Ferrari Dino 246.
Citroen Xsara
Based on the Xsara hatchback, the Xsara World Rally car is the arch nemesis to the Lancer Evolution. Also one of the most successful rally cars in the world, the Xsara boasts 28 rally wins and has won three consecutive Driver’s Championship titles.
Audi Quattro
The Quattro first made headlines in the early 80s with its four-wheel-drive system – a feature that was revolutionary in its era. This magnificent machine holds the title of the most powerful rally car of all time, with a mighty 591 bhp, climbing from 0-60 mph in a scorching 3.1 seconds.

Subaru Impreza
The Impreza came to prominence during the last rallying decade and was born a track champion. Legendary rally driver Colin McRae brought the Impreza to the pinnacle of rally racing fame, with the duo managing to win the world rally championship three times!
