The World’s Most Criminally Badass Police Cars

March 20, 2014

International police departments are really stepping up their game to take down perpetrators in style. It makes a lot of sense. Criminals have their own high-speed getaway cars – and let’s be honest, chasing a bank robber driving a Ferrari down the M1 in a Vauxhall Astra just isn’t going to cut it!

So let’s get down to it – we’re taking a trip around the world in some seriously sexy crime-fighting cars.

Great Britain

This McLaren C12 Spider will do 0-62 in just over 3 seconds and top out at 204 mph – quick doesn’t even begin to cover it! The C12 is powered by a monstrous twin-turbo V8, kicking out over 600 bhp. The McLaren comes with an equally staggering price tag of £240,000.

Before you ring the tax office to complain about where your tax money is going, we’re going to burst that particular bubble. Unfortunately, the C12 was only on loan from McLaren to the West Midlands police force for “promotional purposes”. The aim was to break down barriers between the police and boy-racers and generate public interest. A shame, if you ask us – we would have loved to have seen this bombing down the road chasing a culprit on a bike. You’d definitely pull over if you saw this in your rear-view mirror. Never mind, back to the Vauxhall Astra…

Lamborghini kindly donated two Gallardo LP560 supercars to the Italian police force. The Gallardo is powered by a 5.2L V10, putting out 560 bhp. The enormous power plant rockets the Lamborghini from 0-62 in 3.7 seconds to a top speed of 203 mph.

The cars are used by Italian state police to help with “accident and crime prevention, sustaining security on italian roads”. Unfortunately one was written-off in 2009 – so it looks like police driver training just isn’t cutting it to handle the beast that is the Lamborghini Gallardo.

United Arab Emirates (UAE)

Where do we begin with Dubai’s police force? It’s like a car show. With so many millionaires in the oil-rich nation, the police clearly need a plethora of super-cars to chase down high speed criminals. The government evidently has the money to spend, judging by the array of supercars in their arsenal. Traffic accidents are a pretty common occurrence in the UAE, with 160 people dying in car related accidents last year. The most common causes are speeding, mobile phone usage and seatbelt neglect. The super-police-cars aim to work as a deterrent and put a stop to high speed lawbreakers.

Their current Dubai police patrol garage includes the Ferrari FF, Lamborghini Aventador, Bentley Continental, Mercedes SLS, Aston Martin One-77, Chevrolet Camaro and even an off-road supercar – the Mercedes Brabus G-63 AMG! Even in the desert sand dunes, no one can escape the Emirati police.

USA

Police Dodge Charger

When someone says American traffic cop, you’re usually picturing an overweight, middle-aged police officer sitting in a dusty old Chevy eating donuts. This stereotype is now a thing of the past – next time you decide to commit a felony, you better have the wheels for the job.

The four-wheel-drive Dodge Charger “Pursuit” has been crowned as America’s fastest ever police car. The Pursuit edition of the Dodge Charger has been designed specifically for the police force, based on feedback from police officers. The Charger is powered by a staggering 5.7L Hemi V8, producing 370 bhp. This power-plant will take the Charger from 0-60 in less than six seconds.

It’s clear that police departments around the world are cracking down on traffic crime – and doing it with both speed and style. We doubt the UK’s budget will stretch to supercar-driving traffic cops – but the fantasy is real for some countries like the UAE, where the government is making serious investments in the police patrol force.
