The New Range Rover Sport SVR: Faster Than Ever

June 25, 2014

The cat’s out of the bag – Land Rover are developing a super fast version of the new Range Rover Sport – and we’ve got all the juicy details. Named the Range Rover Sport SVR, the high power off roader is being developed under the supervision of Land Rover and Jaguar’s ‘Special Vehicle Operations’ team – a branch of the Jaguar-Land Rover group focusing on high performance cars, similar to Mercedes AMG.

The spy shots don’t reveal much, as the SVR has been heavily disguised with patterned decals, hiding minor details. However, it’s clear from the images that there are a few sporty upgrades to the SVR, including lower and meaner looking front and rear bumpers – alongside the obviously lowered ride height. Fans of the Range Rover don’t have long to wait, though, as the automakers plan to debut the Sport SVR at this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. The SRV is set to take part in a series of runs during Goodwood’s notorious hill climb challenge over the 4 day event.

The Sport SVR will get a new power plant, courtesy of Jaguar. The 5.0 L V8 will receive the supercharger treatment, producing a staggering 543 bhp, giving the SVR a 40 bhp boost over the standard Sport’s most powerful variant. Early performance statistics estimate that the Sport SVR will jump from 0-62 mph in just 4.5 seconds – practically physics-defying for a car as heavy as the Range Rover.

Other changes to the SVR over the standard sport model are rumoured to include an upgraded suspension and reprogramming of the car’s electronic stability system. Firmer, lower suspension will improve the cornering capabilities of the Range Rover, combined with active body roll control to keep the car firmly planted to the road through the bends. We reckon the Range Rover will be due an upgraded braking system in order to keep all that weight and power safely under control.

Range Rover have yet to release any pricing details for the SVR yet, however we expect it to be around the £100k mark, with a possible release date in early 2015.
