The 2014 New York International Auto Show opens its doors to the world press on Wednesday 16th of April – opening to the general public on Friday 18th. The eagerly anticipated motor show is expected to be one of the best yet, with automakers flexing their creative muscles and pulling out the big guns to impress. Hot on the heels of the Geneva Motor Show, the auto industry is abuzz with news of upcoming releases, and we’ve got the scoop on this year’s biggest unveilings!
BMW M4 Convertible
German executive automakers BMW are set to release a convertible version of the new BMW M4, unveiled earlier this year. The sporty M4 convertible uses the same 3.0 litre straight-6 engine shared by the M3 and M4 coupé, producing a cool 425 bhp. The turbocharged engine will take the M4 from 0-62 in a swift 4.6 seconds. As is the norm with fast BMW’s, the M4 is electronically limited to a top speed of 155mph – more than enough for the school run! The M4 convertible goes on sale in September and you can get your hands on one for just shy of £61,000.
Land Rover Discovery Vision Concept
Land Rover are set to replace their discovery lineup and will be debuting the concept ‘Discovery Vision’ vehicles this April. The new range is expected to include two different vehicles, replacing the current Freelander and Discovery models. Details are being kept under tight wraps – however, Land Rover have released a teaser video hinting at a complete redesign. Spy shots of the heavily disguised Freelander replacement leaked earlier this month, and it’s clear that Land Rover is taking design hints from their second brand Range Rover. The reveal is sure to excite the world press and fans of the famous off-roader, with Land Rover’s global popularity sure to grow with the addition of new models. More details to follow.
Mercedes S63 AMG Coupé
Mercedes have sports car manufacturers shaking in their boots, with the announcement of the S63 AMG coupé set to well and truly stir the pot. On sale in the UK from November, the S63 coupé will replace the CL63 AMG as Mercedes front runner in the high performance luxury coupé market. AMG tuning has taken the standard S63 from quick to downright insane. Its twin-turbo 5.5 litre V8 produces 577 bhp rocketing the coupé from 0-62 in just 4.4 seconds! The AMG will be available in both rear-wheel and four-wheel drive versions – prices reflect the premium badge, and the S63 AMG is expected to come in at around £100,000.
