Design
Unlike some family hatchbacks, the Vauxhall Astra is a beautiful car upon first look – immediately standing apart from its rivals as a stylish and sophisticated machine. The Astra offers ample space for five adults, along with plenty storage room – thanks to the car’s 351 litre boot, which can be extended to a spacious 1216 litres for those long family road trips.
The interior of the Vauxhall is a beautiful thing, with the dashboard blending seamlessly with the doors – creating an overall look of sleekness and sophistication. If you decide to opt for the the SRi model or higher, the interior includes unique lighting that drapes the dashboard in a gorgeous shade of red.
Performance
The Vauxhall Astra isn’t a car built for performance – but the feisty hatchback manages just fine in spite of that. With an array of diesel and petrol engines available, we’d recommend the 1.6 diesel. While it doesn’t promise the best performance of the bunch, the 1.6 achieves a satisfying balance of speed and noise – meaning the car’s comfortable and quiet interior isn’t ruined by the roar of an engine.
Features
The Vauxhall Astra is an ideal choice for families – offering not only a lovely host of kit but also superior safety status. One of the safest cars on the market, in fact, the Astra boasts an extensive airbag collection – featuring driver and front passengers airbags, front seat side impact airbags and full size curtain airbags.
Once you’re done arguing over who picks the road trip soundtrack, the Vauxhall Astra boasts a wealth of choice in the music department. The Astra features a standard CD player, as well as a USB port and auxiliary cable port, so you’re never short of options. On top of that, the Vauxhall Astra features central deadlocking and even electronic stability programming (ESP), offering a higher level of safety to an already disaster-proof car – with one in three fatal accidents being preventable by this cutting-edge technology.
With a starting price of £12,995, there’s no doubt the Vauxhall Astra could be the ultimate family hatchback.
