In recent years, Skoda’s reputation for reliable and quality cars has skyrocketed and the latest car to join the Skoda line-up is the sleek new Skoda Fabia. Designed to rival the new Ford Fiesta, the third generation Fabia is making its debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in October. Skoda has just issued a press release with the low-down of this little hatchback – and today, we’re giving you exclusive details on the brand new Skoda Fabia.
- Sleek, redesigned shape for 2014
- Improved steering and suspension setup
- 7 super-efficient engines to choose from!
Design
While you can expect the full reveal at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, the new Fabia’s design DNA is set to look sportier than ever. The hatchback will embrace Skoda’s new ‘Vision C Concept’ with a contoured bonnet and a chrome-framed grille. Adding to this more upmarket look is a 65kg weight loss, 30mm lower roofline and an 90mm increase in width, in comparison to the current model. The sharpened features keep in a mind a younger audience and inject some personality into the little Skoda.
Features
The new Fabia will be more agile, promising a smoother ride, thanks to a new steering and suspension setup. Features such as a keyless entry and parking sensors will be fitted as standard. Range-topping Fabias will be equipped with a luxurious 6.5-inch touchscreen entertainment system that’s compatible with smartphones, using Skoda’s innovative MirrorTech feature. The Skoda will also be available with new safety features including an auto-braking feature – which uses sensors to detect objects in its path and applies to breaks to prevent collisions.
Performance
The dashing new Fabia comes with seven engine options, all super efficient and varying in power. The entry level model will feature a budget friendly 1.0 litre 3-cylinder petrol engine pushing out 59 bhp. There’ll also be another 1.0-litre petrol engine with increased power and two 1.2 litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines, with the range-topper putting out a capable 109 bhp. The remaining three engines are all super-efficient diesels, all based on a 1.4 litre turbocharged unit, but with varying power levels. Skoda claim that the new Fabia achieves a 17% reduction in fuel consumption over the previous model. Equipped with a 74 bhp diesel engine and joining the line-up in 2015, is the Greenline version boasting impressively low emissions figures of just 82 g/km of CO2.
UK prices for the new Skoda Fabia are yet to be revealed, but based on the current Fabia’s £9,945 entry level price, you can expect a small increase.
