Ford unveiled the new, facelifted Focus at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show back in March. The 2014 Focus will be the latest in Ford’s refreshed line-up with the new-look Fiesta and Ka already firmly established. The Focus will be joined by a new Mondeo model later this year, bringing the whole range bang up-to-date. Changes to the new Focus include a refreshed exterior and interior design, new, more economical engines and a more advanced entertainment system.
Like the Fiesta, the new Focus features Ford’s new signature front grille. The oversized chrome grille takes inspiration from Aston Martin’s designs, giving the Ford range a much more premium look. Ford have stepped up their game in terms of design, quality, performance and features in recent years with the new Focus set to compete with the ever popular VW Golf. New bodywork gives the Focus a sleek, sportier appearance with a new molded bonnet and swept bumper which complements the smaller, angular headlights.
Interior wise, Ford have vastly improved upon the previous Focus, with a much cleaner, premium design. The 2014 Focus will be the first Ford to get the new Sync-2 connectivity and entertainment system. This is an improvement on Ford’s highly successful original Sync system and will feature an 8-inch touchscreen display. This can be used to control the car’s audio, sat-nav, climate control and other connectivity settings. Ford’s sync technology also allows users to play music, navigate or make phone calls through voice commands.
The new Focus will be available with a huge range of engine choices, including the fantastic new Ecoboost engines, which has proven popular in the new Fiesta. The Focus will be the first Ford to be offered with the new 1.5 litre Ecoboost petrol engine – using a turbocharger to achieve 148 bhp or 178 bhp, depending on specification. This will be in addition to the capable and super-economical 1.0 litre Ecoboost engines, producing 99 bhp or 123 bhp. We suspect, as time goes on, that Ford will discontinue their older engines as the Ecoboost technology becomes standard across the range. The Focus will continue to be offered with either a 5-speed or 6-speed manual gearbox, with automatic transmission available as an extra option.
Available from July 2014, pricing of the new Ford Focus is set to be similar to the current model, starting at just under £14,000 for the base model. As with the current Ford range, 4 trim levels are expected to be offered – Edge, Zetec, Titanium and Titanium X. Ford have recently hinted that a new Focus RS model is in development and could theoretically go into production in the next year or two.
