The Scirocco is an iconic car in the Volkswagen community. Mark Dunmore’s Scirocco generated great excitement at Bug Jam this year. We recently had the opportunity to talk to Mark and get a little more information on his outstanding vehicle.
Mark bought the V
W from friend, Joe Ratta Blower around 6 years ago. Although the Scirocco already had its distinctive split-personality look, Mark really wanted to put his own stamp on it! Inspired by the Mad Max car, Mark added new vents and spoilers, took off the roof rack and now drives the two-face Scirocco every day.
There are still a few more modifications that Mark wants to do, including changing the current standard 1.8 engine to a Mark 3 diesel with Mitsubishi turbo. Although he will have to find time to do it between his other 5 Volkswagens.
Driving around, Mark always gets a lot of attention in his characteristic Scirocco. With everyone talking double looks at its extremely different exterior. He commented that he can never be naughty in this car without going unnoticed, as he can’t even go down the street without somebody taking a picture.
Although Mark doesn’t go to all the VW events, he likes going to the bigger ones. This year was Mark’s first appearance at the Bug Jam; he loved the whole atmosphere and is already planning to go back next year. His current project is a Volkswagen Bay Window Panel van. If ready in time Mark wants to be able to showcase it at the Bug Jam 2017.
When asked what his dream car would be, Mark had a few ideas. Eventually he narrowed it down to a Porsche Dragster or Speedster. Both have unique old school lines and features that have always caught Mark’s eye. For now though, he is satisfied with his collection of Volkswagens.
