From the outside, the Kia Sportage is a smart and sleek SUV, and climb inside the cabin and you’ll be met with plenty of comfort. The adjustable steering wheel and driver’s seat means finding a comfortable driving position shouldn’t be a problem, and there’s ample legroom up front, too.
In the rear of the car, split-folding seats come as standard – adding to the Kia’s practicality. With the rear seats in place, the boot boasts an impressive 564 litres of storage space – and this expands to a huge 1,353 litres when the rear seats are folded flat.
Performance and Handling
If you’re looking for low running costs, a diesel engine is the way to go. The 1.7 litre CRDi returns 55.4mpg, but if you’re searching for a more thrilling ride, opt for one of the two 2.0 litre models. Both engines guarantee a faster ride and pack a more powerful punch, but the added speed will come at a cost – with annual road tax varying between £130 and £265.
If you spend a lot of time travelling around town, it’s worth considering the 1.6 litre GDi petrol. Emitting 149g/km of CO2, this engine will leave you with an annual road tax bill of £145. Where the Kia Sportage really shines is with its resale value, with the car predicted to retain over 50% of its original price after 36,000 miles and 3 years on the road.
Features
All Kia Sportage models come packed with kit, and even the entry level model comes with a leather steering wheel, cloth seats, air conditioning and electric windows as standard. Step up to the Sportage 2 – or KX-2 for 4 wheel drive – and you’ll get the added luxury of half leather seats, tinted rear windows and a panoramic sunroof.
3 and KX-3 models benefit from full leather upholstery and heated front and rear seats. If you decide to splash out on the top-spec KX-4 car, you’ll get even more added extras for a touch more luxury.
If you have your eye on the limited edition Axis Edition – of which just 1,200 have been produced – you’ll get a voice-controlled Sat Nav system, as well as heated front seats and automatic headlights and wipers.
