Design

‘Spacious’ and ‘solid’ are just two words that aptly describe the Kia Rio. With a smart exterior, available in a range of body colours, and a practical interior, the Kia Rio is an all-round impressive package.

As one of the largest superminis on the market, the Kia Rio offers plenty of head and legroom for passengers – as well as ample storage for your in-car essentials. With a centre cubbyhole, deep door pockets and a generous glovebox, there’s plenty of space on offer.

Performance & Handling

When it comes to performance, the Kia Rio’s small engines are never going to pull any big punches – but the petrol engines fare better than the diesel lineup. For drivers covering longer distances, the 107bhp 1.4 litre is the way to go – accelerating from 0-62mph in 11 seconds and topping out at 114mph.

If you’re not a fan of petrol engines, the Kia Rio diesel lineup comes with stop-start technology. The most economical engine in the range is the 1.1 litre CRDi 1 model, returning up to 87mpg and emitting just 86g/km of CO2 – but performance is lacking, taking 15.5 seconds to accelerate from 0-62mph. For punchier performance, step up to the 1.4 litre CRDi. This engine returns 74.3mpg and keeps CO2 emissions under 100g/km.

Features

There are 6 trim levels available with the Kia Rio, starting with the entry-level Rio 1 and topping the range with the Rio 4. After the basic spec, the 1 Air comes kitted with air-conditioning – while moving up to the Rio 2 to Rio 4 trims adds automatic air-con, reversing sensors and larger alloy wheels. If you’re in the market for a touch more tech and willing to pay the extra money, a Sat Nav system is available on the Rio 3 and above.
