What’s that in your glove box? A dried up pen? Old pay-and-display parking tickets? A half-eaten packet of Wine Gums? Sorry to break the news to you folks, but that’s NOT what your glove box should be used for. Including stating the obvious (gloves), there are some essential items that every organised driver should have to hand – and where better to store them than in the humble glove box?
Basic must-haves include a reliable pair of winter gloves (no-one likes de-icing the car with bare hands), your car manual for decoding cryptic warning lights, and your manufacturers manual – full of handy information on everything from correct tyre pressures to maximum load weights for your model of car. But without the following essentials, no driver’s glove box will ever measure up.
First Aid Kit
It’s a no-brainer really, but you should have always keep a first aid kit handy on the road. Ideally a store-bought first aid kit with enough in it to cover everything from a graze to something more serious – however, if you’re on a budget, you can make your own using a small tupperware box and some essentials from your medicine cabinet. Whether it’s a wasp sting, a paper-cut from a parking ticket or a cappuccino spill somewhere very awkward, the potential accidents are endless. Make sure you’re stocked up on painkillers, plasters and antiseptic, leaving you ready to tackle any road trip emergency!
Torch
If you’re stranded in the dark, you need to preserve your phone’s battery for emergency calls – so make sure you don’t drain it using the flashlight feature. Keep a torch with some fresh batteries in your glove box for emergencies. When you break down on a dark and spooky country lane, you’ll thank us!
Snacks
You’ve got to be prepared for every possibility – hunger included. However, there’s a more important reason to keep snacks available other than just for when you’re feeling peckish. If your car breaks down, you could potentially be stranded miles from civilisation, waiting for roadside recovery to come to the rescue. Essential glove box snacks are especially important if you or any of your regular passengers are diabetic and need regular food to control blood sugar levels.
Hand Wipes
Three words – service station toilets. If you want to avoid catching a horrific infection from public toilets then anti-bac wipes are a must! They also have some amazing everyday uses too. Whether you’re stopping for a road side snack or changing a tyre, hands can get grimey on the go – and hand wipes are a life-saver for keeping those mucky mits from marking your immaculate upholstery.
Road Map
Having grown accustomed to 24/7 mobile internet access, the humble paper map has reached near obsoletism in today’s smartphone generation. But you’ll have the last laugh when you’re lost without phone signal and pull out your trusty paper road map. Call us nostalgic, but we wouldn’t make a trip without one!
