The Formula 1 Championships have a long standing history since the series began in May 1950. In total there have been 31 different champions and after next weekend this could be 32
As the season comes to an end, it is all down to the last race to find the world champion. Both with nine race wins this year- will it be Lewis Hamilton or Nico Rosberg to take the top spot next weekend?
Tension between Hamilton and Rosberg aside, this will be the third consecutive year that Mercedes have won the Constructors World Championships. Dominating and achieving over 700 points in all three years.
Nico is currently the most successful driver to have never won a title. He has won 23 races yet for the last two years Lewis has beaten him to the ultimate top spot.
In order for Hamilton to win the championship he would need to win next weekend’s race without Rosberg securing a place on the podium. If Hamilton does it, he will join an elite group of drivers all to have won 3 championships in a row. So far only Juan Manuel Fangio, Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel have achieved it.
Finishing on the podium is all that Rosberg needs to do! No matter where Hamilton places, if Nico gets on the podium he will have won his maiden world championship.
Nico is currently leading on 365 points with Lewis only 12 points behind on 355. Both drivers are in contention so who do you think will take the world championship title?
Both Hamilton and Rosberg have opted for identical tyre selections. The Mercedes drivers have chosen 7 ultra-soft, 2 super-soft and 4 soft tyres for the racing weekend. With identical choices, the title really is up for grabs!
The Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is live next Saturday. You won’t want to miss it!
