First Look: 2014 Volkswagen Polo

January 29, 2014

Set to make its debut in March at the Geneva Motor Show, the 2014 VW Polo is looking a lot sexier than the old model, as well as boasting higher fuel efficiency, lower emissions and improved tech.

The subtle changes to the body have done wonders for the look of the Polo. The front bumper has been completely redesigned to accommodate that larger air intake, with a lovely new chrome strip going across the grille and angry new headlights to match giving it a much more aggressive stance than the old version. The top of the line model will look even more impressive, thanks to the addition of some LED headlights – and everybody knows the ladies love a pair of LED headlights, right?

VW have added 5 new alloy wheel designs to the range to spice up the look of this new, sportier Polo and the back end has taken some inspiration from its ever-popular big brother, the Golf. If you squint at the image, you may even see the littlest – but still awesome-looking – wing on the back. They’ve really upped their game in 2014 and we think this car is going to walk out of the showroom thanks to these minor changes that have done so much for this little car.

It isn’t just the outside where you can see hints of the Golf’s perfect styling – once you look inside, you’ll see the new Polo has received the same 3-spoke steering wheel and touchscreen interface its big brother got. The top end 6.5 inch touchscreen senses when your hand is close to it to turn on, and also features an image viewer as well as USB and Bluetooth connectivity.

On the safety side of things, don’t think Volkswagen forgot about it while focusing on the Polo’s new bad boy look – adaptive cruise control and a clever radar system which slow the car when it approaches traffic (called FrontAssist) are also available on the 2014 Polo. As well as that, the new Sport Select suspension which allows the driver to adjust the stiffness of the car for a sportier ride is offered on this car for the first time.

But we know what you’re really thinking – what have they done to the engine to match this new look?
Well the 1.2 and 1.6 TDI diesel engines available before have been replaced with 3 1.4L TDI engines boasting lower emissions and more or less the same power as before – for the same quick and nimble ride you’re used to but with a big difference to the environment.

The beautiful vehicle the 2014 is set to be is available to order in the UK in April, with first deliveries expected to be towards the end of July. The good news is that all these upgrades and extras come at no extra cost – VW has promised no change, meaning the basic model should start at just £11,000.
