BMW M4 Review

March 9, 2016

We love nothing more than an opportunity to take a truly fast car out for a test drive – and today brings one such opportunity. The “adrenaline fuelled” BMW M4 is, above all else, a testament to the German brand’s ability to produce lean, mean cars that eat tarmac for breakfast – which makes it hard to argue with the admittedly hefty price tag.

Today, we’re climbing inside this turbocharged 4 Series in a brand new BMW M4 review. We’ll be taking a long, hard look under the bonnet and giving you all of the M4’s raw specs and need-to-knows, so you can decide whether this beast of a BMW is the model you want.

After all that, we’ll give you some insight on our range of BMW finance deals so you can avoid paying £57k up-front and skip straight to the good bit.
BMW finance options

  • White-knuckle performance potential
  • Top-notch styling, inside and out
  • Packed with all the in-car equipment you need, and some you don’t

Design

The BMW M4 is no ordinary 4 Series. With its record-breaking weight of under 1,500kg and ultra stylish looks, the 3-door BMW M4 is heavy competition for its rivals. The M4 positively oozes sporting sophistication, with its striking air inlets, a muscular powerdome showing the engine’s contours and an athletic coupe line on the bonnet. In line with the M Series, the car also features the standard M kidney grille – with double slats, M side gills and M exterior mirrors that underline the stylish and energetic appearance of the BMW M4 coupe.

Inside the BMW M4, interior styling is every inch the palace you’d expect. Boasting those distinctive M tri-colours – present on the stitching, steering wheel, dials and door-sills – the irresistible M4 comes with swish leather seats to boot.

Features

The BMW M4 is heaving with kit, including BMW’s Professional Media package – complete with widescreen Sat-Nav and all-round parking sensors as standard. It also features precision technologies like the M Servotronic, Active M Differential and Adaptive M suspension – creating a seamless connection between driver and machine. As if that wasn’t enough, the M4 also features the Aero Curtain and Air Breather for increased aerodynamics – with the option to add adaptive LED headlights for expanded visibility, day and night.

BMW’s iDrive is just about the finest in-car Sat-Nav and entertainment system available today – and can be controlled via the steering wheel or the clickwheel on the car’s transmission tunnel.

Performance & handling

The M4’s performance potential is obvious at first glance. With a mighty 431bhp for you to play with, the coupe houses a powerful and dynamic 3.0 litre TwinPower Turbo straight six-cylinder engine – offering an upgrade on the legendary BMW M3’s V8 engine. The use of turbochargers with a downsized engine means that the M4’s power is in no way compromised – sprinting from 0-62 mph in an eye-watering 4.1 seconds and climbing to an impressive top speed of 155 mph.

The BMW M4 has been designed for some serious track-thrashing – and these aren’t surprising figures for a high-end model. You won’t get the same instant engine response that the previous M cars had due to the turbos, but you do get the extra torque and lower CO2 emissions – ideal for keeping your road tax at bay. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard – but you can opt for the seven-speed twin-clutch gearbox instead, if you fancy.

BMW M4 specs

  • 0-62mph: 4.1 seconds
  • Top speed: 155mph
  • CO2: 204g/km
  • MPG: 34.4mpg
  • Price: £57,050+

BMW M4 prices

If you’re in the market for a BMW M4, prices start from a cool £57,050 for the coupe, and jump up to £61,145 for the convertible – but in return, you’ll have the privilege of driving one of the world’s finest sports saloons. Depending on any extras you opt for, this may bump up a little further – with adaptive LED headlights costing £1600, and carbon ceramic brakes adding an extra £6250 to the M4’s price tag.
