WAGmobile Wednesdays: Bentley Continental GT

July 9, 2014

WAGmobile

The Bentley Continental kicks off the first edition of WAGmobile Wednesdays – bringing you the ultimate female rides from the world’s most pampered princesses. So whether you’re a tom-boy with a taste for tarmac, or a girly girl with an insatiable need for speed – our weekly WAGmobile is your source for the best and worst celebrity rides around!

The Bentley Continental GT

Without question, the Bentley Continental has proven to be one of the most popular rides for both footballers and their partners. It could be the British heritage, the super luxurious interior or the brute power – but whatever the reason, the Continental GT is selling like hotcakes amongst wealthy athletes.

Perhaps one of the most famous demonstrations of bad taste the world has ever seen is when then Manchester footballer, Stephen Ireland, bought his partner a Bentley GT, and ‘modified’ it beyond recognition – with disastrous consequences. In 2009, Stephen bought his WAG girlfriend, Jessica Lawler, a brand new Bentley at the estimated cost of £260,000 – with the er, ‘styling upgrades’ included.

Jessica’s Bentley comes complete with two tone white and red paintwork and upholstery – and the seats even have a love letter from her boyfriend embroidered into the fabric, for an extra classy touch! While this Cheshire cruiser may not be the finest example of the Bentley Continental, the car’s not to be sniffed at, boasting impressive performance and handling.

The New GT

The latest Continental GT is available in both convertible and coupe versions – starting at an eye watering £124,000. The GT is available with 3 engine options – a barely conservative 4.0 L V8 pumping out 500 bhp, or two 6.0 L W12 engines achieving 567 bhp and 616 bhp respectively. With such powerful motors under the bonnet, it’s unsurprising that the GT will rocket from 0-62 mph in just 4.5 seconds, reaching a top speed of 188 mph! The school run will be a doddle!

The cheaper and more economical V8 is our pick of the range, offering great performance without the extra price and problems associated with the bigger and heavier W12 engines. As expected, all models in the Continental range come with impeccable ride, handling and comfort levels as standard. Its 4-wheel drive system and semi-automatic paddle shift gearbox work flawlessly, and so they should for that price! Expect butter soft leather and polished wood on the inside, amidst a suite of gadgets and in-car tech. It’s no wonder the Bentley is so popular – its versatility and lack of weak spots make it a great all rounder for the luxury fast car market.
