Mustang Facts

  • The first Ford Mustang was released on April 17th 1964.
  • The 50th anniversary was celebrated in style at the New York International Motor Show.
  • To date, Ford have sold over 9 million Mustangs during its 50 years in production, making it one of the most popular muscle cars ever produced.
  •  Ford have now unveiled a new Mustang for 2015 with a complete redesign.
  • The 2015 model will mark the 6th generation in this historic line of Fords, and will be made available in the UK.

UK Release Confirmed

Good news for UK fans – from 2015, the Mustang will go on sale in Europe for the first time in its history. Its popularity in America and the high levels of demand have finally convinced Ford to bring some American flavour to the UK. Ford have confirmed that a right-hand drive model will be sold in the UK. The European model will be available with a 2.3 litre, 4-cylinder Ecoboost engine from Ford’s new, greener engine line-up. The Ecoboost engine is expected to produce around 300 bhp – but it’s expected that Ford will still offer the original, more powerful V6 and V8 GT engines as well. Prices for the UK market are expected to be around £30,000 – however, these will vary with optional extras and model specs.

King Kong of Cars

To celebrate the 50th anniversary, Ford recreated their original launch stunt, placing the Mustang on the observation deck of the Empire State building – 86 floors up, and 1000ft above the bustling streets of Manhattan, with the bright yellow 2015 Mustang proudly flying the flag for Ford. The world’s most iconic car on top of the world’s most iconic building – very fitting. In order to get the car up there, engineers first needed to cut the Mustang into sections small enough to fit into the building’s lifts – then the new car was reassembled at the top.

Burnouts At the Touch of a Button

Ford have confirmed that the new Mustang will feature “line-lock technology”. The new feature will lock the front brakes while keeping the rear wheels free, allowing the driver to perform bad-ass burnouts with ease. Similar systems are often installed in drag racing cars to allow drivers to warm up the rear tyres before a race – providing more traction. The Mustang is synonymous with drag racing, and this feature is sure to excite fans of the car. A spokesperson for Ford was keen to stress, however, that this feature is intended for track use only.
