2014 Beijing Motor Show: Audi TT Off Road Concept

April 25, 2014

Audi have revealed the TT SUV ‘Off Road Concept’ at this year’s Beijing International Motor Show. Audi had previously teased the press with sketches of the concept earlier this month. Yet to have an official name, Audi are clearly keen to capitalise on the popularity of the TT, showing its potential to be expanded into a full range of sporty vehicles. The TT SUV concept was one of the most highly anticipated exhibitions in Beijing this year.

The crossover version of the Audi TT retains some of the TT’s styling and body shape, but sits on a jacked up SUV chassis more similar to that of Audis Q range of off roaders. The stretched body will comfortably seat 4 – although, as is common in many Audis, the sloping roofline is sure to infringe on headroom. Much of the interior remains true to the new Audi TT replacement, due later this year – with a simplified, cleaner dashboard and most of the dials replaced by a HD TFT screen behind the steering wheel.

The TT Off Road Concept shown in Beijing is powered by Audi’s new e-tron hybrid technology. The model features a 2.0 litre TFSI turbocharged engine, which is supplemented by 2 additional electric motors – producing a combined power output of 408 bhp. Audi have clearly been keen to retain the TT’s performance in the SUV adaptation. The concept model will accelerate from 0-60 in just 5.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 155 mph. Not bad for an SUV that claims to average 148 mpg!

The concept also features plug-in connectivity, meaning that the batteries can be charged via a wall socket. Audi claim the new concept is capable of driving over 30 miles on battery power alone, meaning zero emissions for short journeys. No further information has been released as to whether or not the TT Off Road Concept will make it to production, but we’re sure Audi fans would be keen to get their hands on this bad boy – its stylish, luxury and sporty design could make it into the ultimate WAG-mobile.
